The jackdaw (Corvus monedula) is a small, intelligent member of the crow family, easily recognized by its glossy black plumage, silvery-grey nape, and piercing pale blue eyes. Found across Europe and western Asia, it thrives in woodlands, coastal cliffs, towns, and farmland. Jackdaws are highly social, often seen in noisy flocks, and mate for life. Their diet is varied, including insects, seeds, fruit, and scavenged food. Known for their playful behaviour and problem-solving skills, they can mimic sounds and even recognize human faces. Their distinctive "chack" call is a familiar sound in the countryside and urban areas alike.
